There is nothing more fleeting or uncertain than Scottish winter climbing conditions, a truth captured in "Scouting for Ice~Ben Nevis, North Face." This painting depicts a familiar sight for many winter mountaineers:
 
After stomping up the forestry track from the North Face carpark in the rain, the CIC hut emerges alongside many of The Ben's iconic ice climbs. The ice looks good. This is when you realise, it was worth the hideously early morning start!
